Our principal, Geoff Smith, has been in the world of accounts since 1967.

He worked until 1979 in the commercial sector, with large corporate concerns such as Marconi and Marconi Marine - members of the GEC conglomerate, for the Post Office on counter and back office duties and for chemical distributors, shipping companies and a match importing subsidiary of Wilkinson Sword.

In 1979 Geoff took the opportunity to move into the legal profession with one of the UK’s top ten law firms, and in 1981 to a smaller start up practice where he remained until his redundancy in 1999.

During the 18 years of that employment Geoff rose from legal bookkeeper in a firm of just thirteen staff which grew to over forty staff and held the position of Practice Manager.

Geoff adopted a “hands on shirt sleeved approach” never shying away from a new challenge - evidenced by his two visits to the firm’s Bahrain office in 1995 to install new computers, accounts software and, on the second visit, training of staff on the systems and procedures, the entire trip being undertaken from start to finish in just three days.

In 1999 and upon his redundancy Geoff decided to take control of his future and freelance, mainly supporting the legal profession.

Although the legal profession has taken a large portion of his working life for the past thirty years Geoff has not forgotten his roots at the very core of accounts and is just as comfortable working for the local small traders.

Recent legislation has required that anyone providing accountancy or bookkeeping services is properly regulated as an Accountancy Service Provider. Rather than fill in a form and get simple recognition via H M Revenue & Customs, Geoff gained accreditation with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, with an impressive 95% mark on the entrance paper.
